Costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, Indias first Oscar Award-winner for her work in Richard Attenboroughs Gandhi (1982) and the winner of two National Film Awards, died at the age of 91 on October 15. She had been diagnosed with brain tumour and was paralysed on one side.
